Furniture is an artistic design considering decorative art to provide storage, hold objects, and support human body which can be made of various materials including plastics, metals, woods, etc. The most popular furniture is made of wooden materials as it is environmentally friendly, durable, and excellent medium for new art. Wood is a contemporary medium of art that offers fascination, beauty, and complexity on its grain. Wooden furniture usually purchased in finished and unfinished for the artistic reason. Regards on the placement, wooden furniture is divided into indoor and outdoor. Most of outdoor wooden furniture is usually made of Teak in unfinished style and it has been proved for its timeless and durable in any weather and seasons. While, indoor wooden furniture is usually made of various kinds of wooden material such as solid wood and/or any types of engineered wood.
As times goes by, furniture has been developed time by time with various design. Each country has distinctive characteristics for each style. Indonesia as an archipelago country which has richest own culture blended with western and middle-east culture has unique and interesting style of furniture. Besides the unique design, Indonesia has been proved on its lumber forestry especially teak wood. Indonesian teak wood has better quality because of its soil and tropical seasons. Other wood plantations are also available such as Mahogany, Acacia, Mindi, Sengon, etc which can be used as medium for furniture whether in solid or engineered wood.
The engineered hardwood become medium choice since it can be designed to meet any specific requirements; stronger; and less prone to humidity. Laminated veneer lumber as one of engineered hardwood offers stronger and straighter medium than other types. As it is a better medium for furniture, laminated veneer lumber is used as material for one of Indo Antique design namely ‘Tetris Shelf’.
